This May, Calke Abbey in Derbyshire invites budding naturalists to its unique "Make Your Own Wild Habitats Diorama" workshop. Taking place on Saturday 23 May from 10am, the event offers a creative opportunity for all ages. Visitors can draw inspiration from the Abbey's own remarkable Saloon, which houses a fascinating collection of historic taxidermy and intricate dioramas, providing a glimpse into past natural history displays. Led by the talented Sarah from Birdhouse Taxidermy, the workshop will be held in the atmospheric Study. Participants will be guided through the process of constructing their own miniature wild worlds. Using readily available materials such as shoeboxes, toilet rolls, and pipe cleaners, attendees will craft detailed habitat displays. To complete their creations, a small, artificial animal will be provided for each diorama. This engaging and free event promises an afternoon of imaginative exploration and hands-on fun, celebrating the natural world in a truly unique setting.
