A Day Retreat

“Even if we contemplate deeply the most sublime works of art we cannot gain benefits that compare with the benefits of contemplating and meditating on the diagram of the Wheel of Life because this diagram reveals the complete path to enlightenment” — Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Joyful Path of Good Fortune.

Step into the rich symbolism of one of Buddhism’s most powerful images—the Wheel of Life. More than a work of art, this ancient diagram reveals the hidden causes that keep us circling in patterns of dissatisfaction, as well as the profound path that leads beyond them. In this day retreat, we will explore the meaning behind each element of the Wheel: the root causes of suffering, the six realms of existence, the twelve links of dependent origination, and the Buddha’s clear message of liberation.

The Wheel of Life, traditionally taught by Buddha, presents the complete path to enlightenment. It contains the essential instructions of the Four Noble Truths—what to know, abandon, practice, and attain—as well as the twelve dependent-related links, a chain of cause and effect that shows how we remain bound within samsara, and how we can break free.

As we engage with the symbolism of the Wheel, we begin to recognise these patterns within our own experience—and, importantly, how to change them. In this way, the diagram becomes not just something to understand, but something to live by.

Guided by KMC Kent’s Principal Teacher, James Baskerville, who brings over 25 years of meditation experience, this retreat offers a practical and inspiring journey through this extraordinary teaching. Set in the peaceful surroundings of beautiful Wootton Hall, and including a delicious lunch, the day provides the perfect opportunity to reflect deeply, recharge, and return home with clarity, purpose, and renewed inspiration for the spiritual path.

Veggie Lunch and light refreshments included.

The retreat will be held in the beautiful, tranquil setting of Wootton Village Hall, Wootton Lane, Wootton, Canterbury, Kent CT4 6RP.
