Exploring the legacy of the original 1976 and 1977 Féile na Bóinne's, held in Drogheda town.

Join Aoife Nic Cormaic of RTÉ’s Rolling Wave for this ‘in conversation’ with director Nuala O’Connor of South Wind Blows, and former RTÉ presenters and musicians Paddy Glackin and Peter Browne, on the 50th anniversary of the Drogheda folk festival Féile na Bóinne.

The panel will explore the cultural impact and legacy of the many iconic source singers and musicians that participated in these seminal gatherings in the heart of Drogheda town. At a time when the rich festival culture that we now enjoy was entirely new, the 1976/77 Féile na Bóinnes originated a new form of festival; a festival that was entirely DIY, community and artist-led.

The panel will reference RTÉ archival news footage and Drogheda photographer Joe Dowdall’s extraordinary 35mm black and white studies of the 1976 and 1977 festivals, now housed at the Irish Traditional Music Archive.
