A Night of Music & Comedy for Doctors Without Borders

This Bank Holiday Sunday, 25 October, McHugh’s in Drogheda will host a special night of live music and comedy, with all proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières).

Headlining the night are legendary Irish trad-fusion band Kíla, bringing their hugely energetic live show to Drogheda. Formed in Dublin in the late 1980s, Kíla have developed a unique sound that combines Irish traditional music and Gaeilge with influences from rock, world music, jazz and African rhythms. Their music features everything from bodhrán, whistles and uilleann pipes to percussion, brass and guitars, creating an exhilarating and unmistakable live experience. They have also worked on the soundtracks for Cartoon Saloon's acclaimed films The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers, as well as winning an IFTA for their score for Arracht.

Kíla will be supported by an excellent line-up of Irish talent, with performances from Disko Volante, SJ McArdle and Tara Dignam, bringing a mix of musical styles and plenty of live energy to the evening.

The comedy side of the night will be hosted by Joe Rooney, the Drogheda-born comedian, actor and writer best known to many as Father Damo from Father Ted. Joe has enjoyed a long career in stand-up, television and writing, and will keep proceedings moving throughout the night.

There will also be a special comedy set from Fred Cooke, one of Ireland's best-known comedians. Fred is renowned for his distinctive combination of musical comedy, physical storytelling and surreal humour. He is currently a familiar face as the MC on The Tommy Tiernan Show and has performed extensively across Ireland, the UK and the international comedy circuit.

Alan Kelly and his Hilariously Drawda T-Shirt brand Al's Tees (Drogheda Thing) will be there on the night selling merch in support of the Gaza cause as well as a number of other facilities where you can support the cause with your purchases.

Project co-ordinator for MSF and charity spokewoman Sarah Leahy will also be there representing Doctor's Without Borders (MSF) and to share with everyone just how they are helping the cause by attending this very worthy event.
