The Pearse Hutchinson Project
Is glór ar leith i saol na filíochta a bhí in Pearse Hutchinson (1927-2012). Tháinig sé sa gcéad áit in Ardteist an Bhéarla sa bhliain 1945 agus foilsíodh na chéad dánta aige i mBéarla (in The Bell) agus i nGaeilge (in The Capuchin Annual) sa bhliain chéanna. Sna caogaidí, bhí sé ag cur faoi in Barcelona, áit ar thit sé i ngrá le teanga na Catalóine. Foilsíodh a chéad mhórchnuasach Gaeilge, Faoistin Bhacach, a bhuaigh Gradam Butler do scríbhneoireacht Ghaeilge, sa mbliain 1968. Téamaí lárnacha ina chuid scríbhneoireachta caillteanas agus marthanas na féiniúlachta agus teanga, chomh maith le cairdeas, gean agus grá. Is cúis náire é gur ligeadh chun dearmaid filíocht Hutchinson i ndiaidh a bháis agus is é an cuspóir atá ag Ag Seinm Samhraidh spéis a athbheochan sa saothar iontach aige.
Pearse Hutchinson (1927-2012) was a unique voice in Irish poetry. His first Irish-language collection, Faoistin Bhacach, published in 1968, received a Butler award for Irish writing.
His poetry dealt with themes of loss and survival of identity and language. Beyond these themes, there were also many poems exploring friendship, affection, tenderness and love. Ag Seinm Samhraidh features the best of his work in Irish read by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Peter Sirr and Gormfhlaith Ní Shíocháin Ní Bheoláin, accompanied by on-screen projections of archive photos and art by Margaret Lonergan.
