A dynamic, experimental class for professional and experienced artists interested in pushing their abstract practice through mixed media.

We’ll explore layering, texture, mark-making, colour, collage, and the unexpected relationships that emerge when different materials and processes come together. The focus is on experimentation, intuition, and developing a personal visual language rather than producing a predetermined outcome.

Through guided exercises, demonstrations, and individual exploration, we’ll challenge familiar ways of working, embrace chance and discovery, and consider how materials can transform the direction of a painting.

A space to take risks, break habits, and deepen your abstract practice — with plenty of room for conversation, experimentation, and play.

Materials to Bring to the Class

Any heavyweight paper or board, any size

Pastels

Watercolour, acrylic ink and/or acrylic colours you like (only pick 3 and black/white for the acrylic paint)

Paint brushes

Pencils, markers and charcoal (and any markmaking tools you prefer)

Any collage materials you may have lying around (magazines, newspapers, scraps of old art or collage papers you have made yourself)

Gloss or matte medium

It would be a plus if you have any painters tape to mask off your pieces
