The Leitrim Larks present Fionnuala Maxwell in conversation with John Spillane. Join us for an intimate evening of songs, stories and conversation with one of Ireland’s most accomplished and distinctive songwriters. John Spillane is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet and dreamer. Rooted in people, place and story, his music appeals across genres and generations. His performances move effortlessly between beautiful poetry, melancholy, magic realism and roguish humour. A native of Cork — the county he lovingly describes as “the centre of the universe” — John is a two-time Meteor Award winner for Best Folk/Trad Act. His extensive back catalogue began with The Wells of the World in 1997, and his songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Seán Keane and many others. His most ambitious work to date, Fíoruisce – The Legend of the Lough, features a stellar cast of collaborators and was named Album of the Year at the RTÉ Folk Awards. During this special evening, Fionnuala and John will explore the people, places, memories and experiences behind his music, interspersed with a generous selection of songs. Seating is limited and advance booking is strongly advised. This event forms part of The Station Sessions, a Leitrim Larks initiative supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
