She moves between crow and woman, eel and wolf. Morrígan is a shapeshifter, an omen of death and a goddess of battle who brought about the downfall of Ireland's greatest hero. Known as the Great Queen, she is one of the oldest and strangest figures in Irish myth, a shaper of fate who guards the sovereignty of the land and decides who falls in war.

Dr Gillian Kenny follows the Morrígan through the sources, from the Táin to the battle of Mag Tuired and on to today. Come and meet the Morrígan, and consider who she was, who she has become, and why she still both attracts and unsettles.

Speaker Bio:

Dr Gillian Kenny is an Adjunct Associate Professor of History at University College Dublin and a Visiting Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin's Centre for Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her research focuses on women's lives in medieval and early modern Ireland and on people considered outsiders in the medieval world. She is the author of Anglo-Irish and Gaelic Women in Ireland, c.1170-1540 and has contributed to podcasts, television and print media on Irish history.
