Exploring colour in art: from Impressionism to the present day.

This six part online lectures series with art historian Jessica Fahy will explore the theme of colour in art from Impressionism to the present day. Drawing on Irish and international art from the Hugh Lane Gallery collection and elsewhere including works by artists Claude Monet, Roderic O’Conor, Mainie Jellett, Sonia Delaunay, Paul Klee, Agnes Martin, Josef and Anni Albers and others, we will delve into the technical development of pigments, colour theory and theories of optics; we will explore how artists were inspired by the symbolic, spiritual and expressive potential of colour and for some artists how colour functions as a subject in its own right.
