The new song gives fans a glimpse into a new, uncharted side of Ruel while still tapping into the vulnerability that he’s known for. At its core, the track explores what it feels like to be stuck in a toxic, self-destructive relationship, knowing it’s hurting you, but not being able to walk away. Ruel recalls how the track came about-I wrote this one on theday I met Kenny and Jackson, and whenyou meet someone for the first time, you sort of try to focus on getting to know one another. After 5-6hours in the studio, we had basically nothing but then Kenny threw a bit of a hail Mary, the three of us mixed ideas around, and next thing we knew we had the whole song in about 30 mins. Since then, every session I’ve had with Kenny has flowed so well and the two of us wrote a good chunk of the album Part2 together! Co-written by industry moguls Kenny Beats(Dominic Fike, Vince Staples, Remi Wolf) and Jackson Morgan, (Justin Bieber, Macklemore), “Hate Myself” captures what it feels like to love someone who isbad for you and choosing to stay until you start resenting yourself more than them. Ruel just wrapped the second-leg of his 2026 North American Kicking My Feet Tour, where he wassupported by UK-born singer-songwriter Arthur Hill, emerging soul-pop singer Chelsea Jordan and rising San-Francisco native Mercer Henderson. Earlier this year, he also toured in South America on the Lollapalooza festival circuit in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, and the Estero Picnic Festivalin Colombia.
