The Great Northern - 150 Years - Train 1

We are delighted to invite you to join us on board our "Great Northern 150" steam train special train on the Great Northern Line (Ireland).

Hauled by our magnificent steam locomotive No. 171 "Slieve Gullion" , back on her former company's lines as we celebrate 150 years since the GNR(I) mainline was opened.

We will depart from Dublin Connolly station at 10:35 and travel out through the North Dublin suburbs of Raheny, Malahide, cross the Broadmeadow and Rogerstown Estuaries, skirt the coastline between Skerries, Balbriggan and Laytown before passing through Drogheda and across the 30m high Boyne Viaduct, we will then steam through the wee county of Louth before arriving in Dundalk. The amazing sight and sounds of our train will delight young and old.

On arrival in Dundalk at approximately 12:05, all passengers must alight the train for the afternoon in the town. The town has many cafés, bars and restaurants to enjoy the afternoon. There are plenty of historic sights to see on a walk around this interesting town.

We have a snack car on board and for the adults a full bar serving draught Guinness and selection of beers, wines, spirits and much more. Great craic is guaranteed.

Our departure back to Dublin will be at 15:30 from Dundalk, with an arrival into Connolly scheduled for 17:30.

Please note that as with all our steam specials, we endeavor to operate this special with our advertised steam locomotive. We only have one operational locomotive available, therefore in the event of a failure of this locomotive or in a period of hot and prolonged dry weather, we may have to substitute the steam locomotive with a diesel locomotive. Please make all aware of this when booking tickets, as tickets will not be refunded in this instance.
