Pay-what-you-can sale of original paintings by artist Ron Dow. Discover his work, take home an original, and support Art Angel’s vital work.

Art Angel is delighted to host a special pay-what-you-can art sale of original works by artist Ron Dow, father of Art Angel co-founder Rosie Summerton.

On the day all paintings will be available to buy and take home, paying what you can by cash or card. There will also be a selection of sketchbooks displayed. These will not be for sale but will offer a deeper insight into his practice, showing his process and the evolution of his ideas through to the final work.

We are honoured to host this collection and share this amazing body of work. Rosie reflected on what this means to her and the legacy her father left through his art:

“As the previous manager of Art Angel, for almost 30 years, I was always influenced and supported by my dad, Ron Dow. He was the real thing - an artist, likely making art most days of his life; art, in its many forms - ceramics, printmaking, sculpture but principally drawing and painting. Ron believed in the power of art to transform, that everyone should have access to art making and that anyone could potentially be an artist.

He attended Edinburgh Art College in the 1950s, where he excelled and even had Sean Connery as a life model. When he retired, he was able to expand his working practice, creating a body of work dedicated to figure, colour, abstract expressionism and humour. The paintings are stories, influenced by things he saw every day, full of life, energy and colour.

People can buy an original Ron Dow painting, paying what they can, to raise funds for Art Angel. Choose a painting, take it home to put on your wall or give to a friend.

All funds raised will go directly towards working with participants of Art Angel.

About Art Angel:

Beginning in 2003, Art Angel exists to enable people aged 16+ living in Tayside to participate in the arts, using creativity to improve mental wellbeing, reduce social isolation and build confidence. We believe that, with quality support, anyone has the potential to be an artist.

We host weekly self-directed group workshops in Dundee where participants can create, learn new skills and connect with others in an inclusive environment. Through regular attendance, participants develop peer networks, strengthen resilience and find positive ways to support their wellbeing.
