.the dot is a Trans & Queer lead and centred spoken word open mic night. Come for spoken word, leave with community and creative inspiration.

This is a strictly sober event.

Everything about the space is optional apart from sharing our inclusive and intersectional ethos.

Structure:

We will start with some gentle chat before getting in to our first part of our performances. Then we will have a break with some optional chat/stillness.

Mid-way through, we will have a writing section using poems/spoken word pieces as prompts. These pieces will always come from members of the global majority, since we want to use our platform to highlight their work in particular.

Then we will again open the floor for some more opportunities to share your spoken word and anything you may have written in the space.

Each performer will have up to 10 minutes, but if your set is shorter than this, that is absolutely welcomed too!

Content Advisories

For those performing, we ask that you consider the themes of your pieces for any relevant content advisories. We ask you to make these known to the audience before you perform.

We do not restrict the material you cover, but we ask you to do this so that people can consent to hearing potentially triggering themes.

Please therefore also be aware that this event may cover heavy topics - should you need to step-out, you can always come up to an organiser who will guide you.

Accessibility:

The venue is on level access and has a gender neutral bathroom. The event will not currently be BSL interpreted. We will have a selection of fidgets.The event is open for everyone who wants to be surrounded by community with optional engagement.

At .the dot we don't clap, we use jazz hands or whatever feels best for you to show silent appriciation for the artist.

3 of cups provides the space for free to us so we can keep our event free to attend, the cafe will be open for drinks and Bernie's banging cakes.
