Due to the anticipated demand, booking your place in advance is absolutely essential to avoid disappointment.

Learn more about Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh's ancient volcano, on a free guided walk. Sitting 251m above sea level, Arthur’s Seat is the highest point of Holyrood Park, which is located at the foot of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Offering 360-degree views of Edinburgh and the Lothians, its history spans thousands of years. On these free guided walks, participants will be able to find out about the people who lived and worked in Holyrood Park from 7000 years ago, right up until the present day. They’ll also be the chance to learn more about the rare wildlife that makes this park so unique. The route contains rough tracks, uneven and boggy terrain, steep inclines and declines which may not be suitable for disabled people or children under 12 years. Dogs are not permitted, except assistance dogs. All walkers are advised to wear warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear with good grips, and to bring a snack and drink. There are no toilets on the walk itself, but toilets are available at the Holyrood Park Education Centre. Tickets for Arthur’s Secrets are free but booking is required. Sessions run on select dates from 27 January to 29 September 2026.
