Join us for an exciting afternoon of Cuban dance with internationally experienced dancer, teacher and choreographer Yainer Carbonell Vegueriz, founder of YC Dance Academy.

This Cuban Dance Bootcamp is designed for dancers who want to deepen their connection with Cuban music, rhythm, movement and culture. Across four dynamic workshops, you will explore Afro-Cuban expression, contemporary movement, Cuban urban dance and salsa fusion.

The workshops are suitable for open-level dancers, with the final Salsa Fusión class recommended for intermediate-level participants.

No partner is needed for the choreography-based workshops.

14:15 – 15:15

Workshop 1: Afro-Cuban Contemporary

Level: Open level

A fusion of Afro-Cuban movement and contemporary dance, exploring body expression, rhythm, flow and grounding. This workshop will help you connect with the music through movement, energy and intention, while discovering a creative approach to Cuban dance.

15:15 – 16:15

Workshop 2: Palo Congo Mayombe

Level: Open level

Palo Mayombe is an Afro-Cuban spiritual and cultural tradition with powerful rhythms and expressive movement. In this workshop, participants will explore the energy, posture, rhythm and body language connected to this Afro-Cuban dance style, while learning with respect for its cultural roots.

Workshop 3: Reparto – Cuban Urban Dance

Level: Open level

Reparto is a vibrant Cuban urban dance style full of energy, attitude and rhythm. This choreography-based workshop will introduce participants to dynamic Cuban street-style movement, musicality and body coordination. No partner needed.

17:45 – 18:45

Workshop 4: Salsa Fusión

Level: Intermediate

A choreography-based salsa fusion workshop combining Cuban salsa with elements of rhythm, body movement and musical interpretation. This class is ideal for dancers with some previous Salsa and Afro-Cuban experience who want to improve their confidence, styling, and musicality. No partner needed.

About the Artist

Yainer Carbonell Vegueriz

Founder of YC Dance Academy

Yainer Carbonell Vegueriz is a Cuban dancer, teacher, choreographer and founder of YC Dance Academy, now based in Glasgow.

He began his professional dance career at the age of 22, training in a wide range of styles including ballet, contemporary dance and tap, as well as Cuban and Latin rhythms such as salsa, cha-cha-cha, rumba, mambo and Afro-Cuban folklore.

Over the years, Yainer has taught students across the UK, combining his international performance experience with a teaching style that is clear, accessible and full of cultural meaning. His classes focus not only on movement, but also on understanding the rhythm, intention and story behind each step.

With extensive experience in choreographing, directing, performing and teaching, Yainer is passionate about sharing the richness of Cuban and Afro-Cuban culture. His goal is to make dance enjoyable and approachable, helping students feel confident, connected and expressive through music and movement.

For Yainer, dance is more than technique. It is a language and a conversation between the music, the body, the people around you and yourself. Through his work, he continues to support and grow Scotland’s dance community, bringing authentic cultural traditions to new audiences while encouraging everyone to discover the joy of dancing.
