About This Event

Doors Open Days West Lothian runs across various locations on 19 September 2026 as part of Scotland's largest free festival celebrating heritage. Visitors can explore the built environment to see both new and old architecture. Admission is free for the general public.

Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment, new and old. Every September, you can explore hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland for free. Some open up once a year, some just once in a lifetime. Doors Open Days is a national event run by the Scottish Civic Trust. Information about the national programme, including event listings, can be found at www.doorsopendays.org.uk. Programme Highlights: Breich Valley Church Breich Valley Parish Church was formed in February 2000 bringing together the four congregations of Addiewell, Breich, Longridge and Stoneyburn. We sold our four previous buildings, acquired land and built a suitable Church building for our needs. Our modern building provides a multi-function sanctuary, has a small meeting room and a larger meeting room. Commonwealth War Graves Tour - Linlithgow Cemetery Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a guided tour of Linlithgow Cemetery. Hopetoun House Discover the grandeur of Hopetoun House, Scotland’s finest stately home. This exquisite home is a shining example of 18th-century architecture, designed by the renowned William Bruce and William Adam. Step inside and explore stunning period interiors, rich in Georgian elegance. You can also wander through the beautiful Grounds, a peaceful haven of nature, history, and heritage. The Grounds are perfect for a relaxed stroll, or an afternoon of exploration. Linlithgow Canal Centre This is an opportunity to visit the Canal Museum, tearoom, yard and wharf, also the workshop of the Linlithgow Union Canal Society and the Mel Gray Education Centre. Built c. 1820s (probably Hugh Baird, Canal Engineer), a visit to the Canal Centre as a whole (Category C Listed) recalls the heyday of the Union waterway (Edinburgh-Falkirk), not yet challenged by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway (1842). The Canal Centre is a simple vernacular building, originally two stables to the east end and two cottages at west end, and is an important surviving part of the infrastructure of Scotland's last major canal. The Museum is recognised by Scottish Government and remains Scotland's only specific canal museum. Sight Scotland Veterans - The Linburn Centre The Linburn Centre is located in the outside skirts of West Lothian. It is situated within beautiful grounds. The building is all in one level. The Linburn Centre is an activity hub , that provides a number of activities such Acoustic shooting, bowling, curling, arts & crafts , gym and gentle exercise, for veterans who have served in the military that have a visual impairment. Whitburn South Church Whitburn South Church – the exterior dates from 1729 with alterations made in 1930 and as a result of a fire in 1955 gutting the interior it was restored and rededicated in 1959. Some stained glass windows have been added over the years since. The church was built in the shape of a cross and was conferred Listed Building Status in 1963.
