Looking for a Fringe souvenir that's a little more personal than something from a gift shop? Join Japanese calligrapher Mare Ito of Wayfarer Shodo Edinburgh for a two-hour creative experience bringing together Scottish culture, Japanese art and Hong Kong food. The experience begins with a live large-scale Japanese calligraphy and ink-painting performance. Then it's your turn to pick up the brush and create your own Edinburgh-inspired postcard using traditional Japanese brushes and ink. Wayfarer Shodo has created a collection of six original designs inspired by Scotland and Japan: Highland Cow, Nessie, Edinburgh Castle, Unicorn, Bagpipes and Daruma. Three designs are featured at each workshop, with the selection rotating throughout the Fringe. Follow a beginner-friendly step-by-step guide, then personalise your postcard with Japanese-inspired details, your name, the date, “Edinburgh Fringe 2026” or your own message. After the creative session, sit down together for a Hong Kong-style meal at Made in Hong Kong, with a main course and drink included in your ticket. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners, adults, families, couples, friends, tourists and Edinburgh locals. All art materials are provided, and everyone takes their finished postcard home. What's included: - Live Japanese calligraphy and ink-art performance - Creative postcard workshop - Choice of three featured designs - All materials and step-by-step guidance - Your handmade Edinburgh postcard to take home - Hong Kong-style main course and drink Location: Made in Hong Kong, 62 Ratcliffe Terrace, Edinburgh EH9 1ST Duration: Approximately 2 hours Booking: Advance booking recommended as places are limited.
