This event is only open to unpaid carers living in or caring for someone in Edinburgh and Midlothian.
About the event: A practical session with some theory included. A certificate will be awarded.
This is a session for unpaid carers registered with VOCAL only. This session will be delivered by Training for Care at their dedicated training space in Norton Park, Easter Road. The session will include theory and practice: Theory:
•the manual handling operations regulations
•risk avoidance, assessment and reduction
•responsibilities of carers
•basic anatomy, physiology, nature of injury
•efficient movement and ergonomics
Practical (as appropriate):
•manoeuvres and transfers, e.g. sitting to standing, assisted walking, stairs, car transfers, wheelchair use, use of glide sheets, transfer aids,
movement of clients in bed, safe handling of inanimate loads
•practical hoist training for use in Moving and Handling manoeuvres and transfers: passive and standing hoists; slings. A VOCAL representative will be in attendance.
Where possible, please arrive promptly as the course will start at 10am.
Please bring your own cold lunch, only tea, coffee and water will be provided at lunch time. There are no kitchen facilities. Please also bring a bottle of water with you as refreshments will not be provided on arrival. Free Parking is available at the venue. If the car park is full, there is nearby on-street parking.
