About This Event

Join us for an introduction to patchwork and quilting. This is an opportunity to work with your favourite fabric pieces, use a pre-loved garment from your wardrobe or explore the hand-picked pieces from our stash. It’s a great way to use up small pieces of fabric and reuse them to create a new patchwork block for projects including cushion covers, placemats, bags and wall hangings. Our knowledgeable teacher Vivienne, a member of Edinburgh Modern Quilt Guild, will take you through each step. You'll learn how to cut out and plan your block, how to piece fabrics together, and then move on to quilting and finally adding bias binding to finish your work. You don't need any experience - just show up ready to stitch, learn and switch off from the everyday. All of the tools and materials you'll need are available in the studio, so there's nothing additional that you will need. You are welcome to bring any cotton fabrics you'd like to incorporate into your design. This class will work with each participant at their own pace and aims to be a relaxing introduction to patchwork and quilting, suitable for beginners and all sewists. You will create an individual and special piece of work that can be made into a cushion cover, placement or tote bag. You will also leave with new skills that will start you off on a new creative journey in quilting.
