The St Josephs Centre in Edinburgh hosts the Scottish premiere of the documentary Traumality. The event takes place on 11 September 2026. Tickets are free.
The brand new documentary Traumality is coming to Scotland. Join us for its Premiere!
The film saw its London Launch in July. We're bringing it to Scotland in September!
The film explores why experiences in childhood have such a lasting impact on adulthood, including both our mental and physical health. It argues that we should stop separating these, because it is our stress regulatory system that underpins both. Trauma, it becomes clear, is due to normal developmental processes that leave the impacts of suffering lodged in our biology. Why then do we so often frame them as 'abnormal' and refer to them as 'mental disorders'? Powerful, important questions, indeed!
The film includes contributions from a range of international specialists, including (amongst others) Deb Dana, Richard Schwartz, Angela Kennedy, Jessica Taylor, Graham Music and Suzanne Zeedyk. It brings the voice of lived experience through Sophie Olson, Debbie Cooper and the filmmaker himself, Ton Mazzone. It leaves viewers in little doubt that a shift is underway in how we can make sense of the origins and treatment of mental health struggles. You can find out more on the film's website: www.traumality.com.
A Scottish Premiere is very fitting because the film turns a warm spotlight on Scotland, showing some of the cutting-edge developments taking place here. That creates a strong platform from which our gathered audience can ask: Where are the gaps? What needs to be addressed next?
The event is being hosted by Scotland's ACEs Action Community, a grassroots network of individuals and organisations working to educate the public about trauma. We are partnering with Balerno Village Screen, for use of their cinema space, because this community initiative captures the spirit in which we hope the film will be welcomed. We would love to see it ripple out across the country, screened in events organised by community leaders everywhere.
The event will include a Q&A session with a panel of those who have been involved in the ACEs Movement in Scotland over the last two decades. We are pleased to confirm that the panel will include Ton Mazzone himself! He is very keen to join us for this premiere of his film.
Attendees will be invited to make a £10 donation on the door. This will help to cover the costs of Ton's travel to be with us.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us on this address: brett@connectedbaby.net.
We look forward to seeing you on 11 September in Balerno, Edinburgh.
