Tom Wood returns on the 16th of September for another talk on the bombing of Edinburgh and Leith

Join us at Mcdonald Road Library on September 16th, 2026 at 6:00 PM (GMT) for a fascinating look into the bombing of Edinburgh and Leith during World War II.

Moving chronologically, Tom Wood combines tragedy and farce in his detailed yet succinct descriptions of the fifteen raids faced by the city between 1939 and 1942. Historical records of Edinburgh’s defence tactics are interspersed with fascinating individual narratives of both victims and survivors, adding humanity to meticulously researched wartime events. As we approach the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2, evidence of the bombings remains visible around Edinburgh if you know where to look. However, the generation who endured these years is largely gone, whilst those who lost their lives have not been commemorated.
