Formed in Leeds in 1981, post-punk gothic rock pioneers The March Violets emerged alongside scene contemporaries like The Sisters of Mercy. Known for their driving drum machine rhythms, jagged echo-laden guitars, and interplay between male and female vocals, the band scored classic 1980s indie hits including Snake Dance and Crow Baby. After splitting in the late 1980s, they reunited for select live shows and returned to releasing new music, including their 2024 album Crocodile Promises. The current lineup features original vocalist Rosie Garland, original guitarist Tom Ashton, and bassist/vocalist Mat Thorpe.
