A Traditional Ceilidh Concert will be held at Augustine United Church 41 in Edinburgh. Performers include singer and storyteller Rena Gertz, Gaelic singer Catherine Baikie, and the Magnus Turpie Combo.
Rena Gertz, Gaelic, Scots, etcetera singer and storyteller ; Catherine Baikie, Gaelic singer; Magnus Turpie Combo (accordions, fiddle, guitar, piano and sma' (small) pipes. Nice relaxing music but also fast and toe tapping, perhaps leading to some dancing. One of the leading bands in Scotland for folk music fun : enjoy their Pills to Purge Melancholy! Their debut CD is sold out, here's to the next one. Andrew Macintyre, not flashy but brilliant. All tempos performed anywhere and everywhere, big stage or wee. Piper to several groups and always in demand for all occasions. Storytelling and music making are as long a tradition in Alba (Scotland) as throughout the world. You'll enjoy both at our ceilidh from Rena Gertz, originally from Germany but fortunately is many years resident here. Rena learned Gaelic and has performed locally and throughout Alba, as a soloist and member of Lothian Gaelic Choir, on of the champion choirs in the country. You may well hear songs from France, Germany or Italy as well as in Gaelic. some imcluded in the CD. In addition to having a lovely singing voice, Rena is a talented teller of tales to entertain and make you think of how better we can help to improve our lives and that of other folk.
