The public is welcome to attend a talk at the St. Bride's Community Centre Cafe in Edinburgh. The event will discuss tram-trains on the South Suburban railway line and is scheduled to take place on 2026-09-01 at 18:30. Admission is free.
Come along to find out how tram-trains on the South Suburban railway line could speed up your journeys across Edinburgh !
Imagine being able to grab a coffee in Morningside, whizz round the shops in Cameron Toll, then walk the promenade at Portobello in an afternoon without spending a single minute queueing in traffic. This is a fantasy today, but once mundane reality for regular users of the South Suburban Railway operating well over a century ago. Tram Trains for Edinburgh is a campaign to put the Edinburgh South Suburban railway back into use as a public transport route. Our proposal is to use tram-trains to deliver a modern, cost effective service operating both on the existing tram route and the ‘South Sub’ railway.
Reopening the South Sub would provide a direct and fast connection between the east & west sides of the city, Fort Kinnaird, Cameron Toll, Kings Buildings, Morningside, Tynecastle; whilst also providing connections to destinations beyond the route itself. With great public transport on the South Sub, congestion on existing east-west corridors is reduced, making all journey times faster, no matter whether you choose to take the train, drive, or cycle.
Join us on 1st Sept. to hear why this scheme makes so much sense for Gorgie, Edinburgh generally and the wider region.
