A social and supportive workshop to learn a new digital skill and share knowledge about the people, places, culture and history of Uganda.

Join us for a fun, interactive Wikipedia edit-a-thon exploring the people, places, culture, geography and history of Uganda. Let’s turn Wikipedia’s “red links” into well-researched, published articles and tackle the representation gaps in the world's largest free encyclopedia!

We are hybrid!

Please note you will need to bring a laptop and charger to take part!

You can join us for some stellar views at the top of the Edinburgh Future's Institute in Teaching Studio 3.35 on the 3rd floor or join us remotely on Teams.

What to expect?

Participants will learn how to edit Wikipedia pages during a hybrid event (online webinar AND in person meetup in theEdinburgh Futures Institute on the 3rd floor in Teaching Studio 3.35) and will be supported over the afternoon to help create new pages for notable places, organisations, and individuals who are not currently on Wikipedia and/or help improve already existing Wikipedia pages.

You'll learn a new digital skill and meet like-minded event participants all passionate about improving representation online to help bolster marginalised communities for the benefit of millions of readers all around the world.

1:30pm – 1:45pm: Welcome and Tea/Coffee

1:45pm – 2:30pm: Wikipedia training from Anna Judelson.

2:30pm - 2:45pm: Tea and Coffee break

2:45 pm – 4:45pm: Research and Editing.

4:45pm – 5:00pm: Publishing your edits, recap and event close.

No prior knowledge required as training will be provided for those with no Wikipedia editing experience.

What to bring?

Please bring your own laptop! The rest is sorted.
