The Fungi ID Walk will take place on 9 November 2026 at Yarner Wood. This beginner-friendly walk will allow participants to learn about fungi while enjoying mushroom tea for a fee of £16.96.
Discover the magic of fungi on a relaxed beginner-friendly walk. Learn, explore, connect with nature, and enjoy mushroom tea.
A world of wonder awaits when you step into the fascinating realm of fungi. This guided walk is perfect for anyone who wants to learn about fungi. Whether you're completely new or have several seasons under your belt, you'll come away with greater confidence in fungal identification.
We'll meet at beautiful locations across Dartmoor (please check dates for locations) where you'll have the chance to slow down, connect with nature, and discover the hidden lives of fungi. Along the way, you'll learn the essentials for identifying different species, including a few that have traditional culinary and medicinal uses.
We'll move at a relaxed pace with plenty of opportunities for questions, discussion, and discovery. To round off our time together, we'll gather for a warming cup of mushroom tea and a chance to share reflections from the day.
This is primarily a no-pick foray, allowing us to appreciate and protect these precious natural treasures. Group foraging is often unsustainable, so we'll also explore responsible foraging practices and how to build a respectful, reciprocal relationship with the fungi and landscapes around us.
Our forays are always full of curiosity, connection, and wonder, and we'd love for you to join us in celebrating the magic of fungi.
Meet your guides:
Alice Sophia Pefanis is a mycologist and researcher with Flete Field Lab, a community interest company developing low-tech, nature-based solutions for freshwater remediation. She began foraging fungi in Eastern Europe as a child and later honed her identification skills in Canada and the UK, specialising in edible, medicinal, and mycoremediation species across the Northern Hemisphere. With a background in mycology, ecosystem restoration, and regenerative agriculture, her work explores how fungal systems can support environmental repair. Alongside her research, Alice lectures on ecology and agriculture courses, leads fungal forays across the UK, and delivers engaging workshops that help people deepen their understanding of the fascinating world of fungi.
