This interactive session will look at research fundamentals.

This interactive session, aimed at those who are relatively new to research, will be led by Prof. Catherine Leyshon of Quay Research. The session is aimed at all those who work in the VCSE (voluntary, faith, community, charity and social enterprise) sector. We will look at some research fundamentals - especially what are we talking about when we talk about research? The session will also explore four ways you can interact with research and give you some basic tips on how things work and what skills you might need:

as a consumer of research (primary and secondary sources; finding and using data; the grey literature and the academic literature)

as a producer of research (doing your own research; quantitative vs qualitative data collection and analysis)

as a commissioner of research (writing a project brief for others)

as a project evaluator (a slightly different type research but underpinned by many of the same issues)

The session will cover some practical issues for people who are research-curious in the voluntary sector, but is not a deep dive into research methods training. Please note: this is aimed at those relatively new to evaluation and research. The session is free. This event is hosted by the VCSE Research Community of Practice of the VCSE Assembly and Devon Community Foundation in partnership with Quay Research Ltd.
