Dr William Ackland, a nineteenth century Bideford doctor

Dr William Ackland, one of the main characters in Liz Shakespeare’s book The Turning of the Tide, practised in Bridgeland Street from 1851 – 1893. His home is now the Con Club (formerly Conservative Working Men’s Club). In this talk, Liz will describe how she researched his life and work and will read extracts from her book.
