About This Event

The Vegetative Grass Identification Course will be held at Chudleigh Town Hall in Exeter on November 19, 2026, from 10:00 AM. This two-day workshop aims to teach participants how to identify various grass species based on vegetative characteristics rather than through seeds or flowers. The course, priced at £220.00, is tailored for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of grass identification within Devon’s rich and varied landscapes.

Join us on a two day grass identification course in Devon to learn how to identify species vegetatively.

A course perfect for those looking to build their confidence on vegetative (non-flowering) grass identification. Although important in winter this skill is useful all year round for habitat surveys.

This course is likely to be of interest to ecological consultants, land managers, conservationists and those interested in plants generally! It is likely to be valuable to those wanting to get in some practice for a Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) assessment.

Build your confidence in vegetative grass structure, using keys to identify grasses and learning how to recognise the most common species. We will be based at Chudleigh Town Hall where we will look at grass samples indoors but will also visit several sites within the local area to cement our learning.

About your tutor

Hannah Gibbons is an experienced habitat and botanical surveyor who has been running plant identification training courses since 2011. In 2025 Hannah set up Teylu Ecology with her brother Luke.
