About This Event

An indoor historic tour of Exeter will be held on 24 October 2026 at Waterstones, following the cancellation of the West Devon walk due to bad weather. Participants will explore significant sites such as Tuckers Hall and the Underground Passages. The event aims to provide a social experience while avoiding the rain.

**Please note, due to the very wet weather forecast for Saturday, we have decided to postpone the West Devon walk until 2027.** **Wet Weather Alternative to West Devon Walk: Medieval (indoor) Exeter** As we have had to cancel the West Devon walk due to predicted heavy rain, we are offering a bad weather alternative, which will be an (indoors!) historic tour of Exeter. There is a lot to see and we can enjoy some social time dodging the rain. We have the opportunity to visit [Tuckers Hall](https://tuckershall.org.uk/), home of the Guild of Weavers, Tuckers and Shearmen since 1471. This wonderful historic building is one of Exeter’s surviving medieval buildings (admission free). We will also plan visit the city’s famous [Underground Passages](https://exeter.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/our-attractions/underground-passages/), which were built from the 14th Century to supply water to the Cathedral and city. Admission is £9 for adults and £7 for students and over 60’s. It’s a fantastic, guided tour underground – well worth the visit. And then we can make our way to the historic Quayside for a visit to the [Custom House](https://exetercustomhouse.co.uk/) visitor centre (admission free). One the way, we can pass the House that Moved, a well-known Exeter landmark. If you want to split off at any time and visit the free-to-enter [Royal Albert Memorial Museum](https://rammuseum.org.uk/), that's also an option. And of course, we will have tea at the Riverside Café on the Quayside. We may also choose to have some lunch in the Cloisters Refectory in the Cathedral. If you’d like to join us, please meet us at 11am outside Waterstones Bookshop on the High Street in Exeter at 11am. We will then see if we can book an Underground Passages tour for our group (which has restricted numbers due to the guided nature of the tour). If we can book a tour, we’ll plan the rest of the activities around this timing.
