About This Event

The Wild Words festival brings an evening of Dartmoor stories and encounters at Sandridge Barton Wines in Exeter on 22 October 2026. Local writers, poets, and storytellers will read evocative work inspired by the myths, history, and landscape of Dartmoor. The event costs £7.21.

An evening with local writers, poets and storytellers, reading evocative work inspired by the myths, history and landscape of Dartmoor.

Dartmoor has always been a storied landscape. In todays high pressure world, where nature must jostle for space alongside industry and technology, against a backdrop of shifting climate and unpredictable weather, these stories have become more important than ever. Used in activism and online messaging, they convey a wealth of meaning, ready for everyone to discover.

Join an inspiring group of Dartmoor writers, poets, storytellers and singers in celebrating the diversity of inspiration which this special landscape provides. All performers have had their writing featured in the DPA's Wild Words magazine, which will be on sale at the event. It can also be read electronically, for free, HERE.

Wild Words is a compilation of writing inspired by Dartmoor. It began as a callout to local writers, essayists, diarists, poets and lyricists and quickly became a wonderfully eclectic selection of pieces written on, featuring or prompted by the moor. Our vision is that, through reading and sharing these stories, people will discover, or strengthen, their connection to Dartmoor. We believe that a strong connection to the landscape inspires activism, accountability, stewardship and a sense of responsibility.

There will be performances from: Finn Clarke, Susan Taylor, Ben Geers, Tracey Fuller, Mark Blackburn, Sara Hurley, Roz and Barron Brady, Victoria Regan, Sophie Pierce, Chris Gilchrist and Tom Hirons.

Sandridge Barton will open their gorgeous restaurant and bar from 5pm, and attendees are warmly invited to arrive early and relax with local food and wines. A range of books and magazines will be available to purchase from performers during the evening.
