For centuries, ball clay from the Bovey Basin has travelled from South Devon to the potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, helping shape one of Britain’s most important industries.
Join Dr Rebecca Nunes and Sophy Rickett for an illustrated talk introducing Winning the Clay, an AHRC-funded research project exploring the history and cultural heritage of the UK's ball clay industry.
Discover the connections between geology, industry, landscape, memory and local communities, as Rebecca and Sophy share their early research discoveries and creative work inspired by the project.
Sophy will present material from Riverings, a new book combining photography and memoir exploring the River Teign and Bovey Basin, while Rebecca will share work in progress from a new film exploring the people and landscapes connected to the ball clay industry.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and join the discussion.
