Día de los Muertos · memory, making & joy · sugar skulls, guided writing & Mexican brunch · Taquila Galway · 1st Nov · open to all
Every year on the 1st of November, Mexican families gather to celebrate the lives of those they have lost. Not with grief, but with colour, food, music, flowers and joy. Día de los Muertos is not a sad occasion. It is a declaration that the people we love do not disappear. They live on in the stories we tell about them.
This morning we are bringing that spirit to Galway.
In the beautiful setting of Taquila, Eglinton Street, we'll move through a sensory led morning of creative expression, guided writing and making, rooted in the joy of remembrance and the power of storytelling.
Together we will make sugar skull masks using mixed materials, a playful and tactile celebration of creative expression. We'll ground into a themed visualisation before moving through a series of writing prompts designed to spark joy, memory and creative play.
Together, Taquila invites you join them in building a shared ofrenda, a traditional altar of remembrance, where you are warmly invited to bring a photograph of someone you love to place among the marigolds and candles.
The morning closes with a shared Mexican brunch provided by Taquila Galway, one of the city's most beloved restaurants and our wonderful hosts for the morning.
This event is open to all genders. Bring your friends, your family, your stories and your appetite.
