Art and HIV/AIDS in Scotland: Practices of Resistance and Remembrance will present talks focusing on artistic practice and HIV/AIDS history, memory, and activism in Scotland.
Talks from James Bell, Conal McStravick & Mason Leaver-Yap focus on artistic practice and HIV/AIDS history, memory & activism in Scotland
To coincide with the exhibition of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt at Tramway, Glasgow, we are delighted to invite James Bell, Conal McStravick and Mason Leaver-Yap to each speak about their research in the context of artistic practice and HIV/AIDS histories, memory and activism in Scotland.
This roundtable invites the panellists to provide provocations for discussion about how art has been deployed to respond to, understand and memorialise HIV/AIDS in Scotland. Even as a small nation, artists have contributed significantly, challenging and working through the trauma, stigma and discrimination of living with HIV/AIDS. In this context, art has provided a space for protest, reflection and political change. The event will touch upon practices of remembrance, how art and activism can foster community engagement and how contemporary artistic interventions disrupt the linearity of historical approaches. Please join us for what we anticipate will be a lively and engaging discussion at The Glasgow School of Art.
Organised by Cole Collins, Laura Guy and Nat Raha in the School of Fine Art with support from the Glasgow School of Art and Tramway, Glasgow.
