Common Room is a new peer-making space for artists and makers in Glasgow, taking place on 29 October 2026 at Strange Field, focusing on collaboration and support for creative practices.
Common Room is a new peer making space for artists and makers in Glasgow, offering a place to build connections, find mutual support, and grow and sustain your creative practice. It's part of Strange Field's programme of support for artists. Sessions are informal, collaborative and responsive, with room for conversation, experimentation, collective learning and support, all shaped by the interests of the group. Over the coming months, we'll work together towards a group exhibition at Strange Field in summer 2027. Common Room welcomes artists and makers at every stage of their practice. We're particularly keen to hear from, though not limited to, further education graduates from across Scotland who are finding their footing, as well as anyone returning to their creative work after time away and looking for a community to work alongside. There's no need to know anyone before you come. Lots of people will be arriving on their own, and you're welcome to just drop in, have a cup of tea and see how it feels. Come as you are, whether you want to make, chat or simply listen. Common Room is facilitated by artists Coral Brookes, Saffa Kahn and Beth Dynowski at Strange Field's space in the Barras. You can also find out more about our other activities, including Strange Exchange, our arts education library; Kiln Klub, our open access ceramics facility; our Open Programme at French Street; and our Archive and Research Circle. Essential Info When: Monthly, on the last Thursday of every month, 6–8pm. Our next session is Thursday 29 October. No booking required, just turn up. Where: 62 Moncur Street, Glasgow G40 2SB What will we do? The October session will focus on clay hand building. No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided. Who is it for? Artists and makers at every stage of their practice, whether you're just starting out, recently graduated or picking things back up after a break. Access: Our venue is fully wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet and food and drink facilities on site. If you have any access requirements or questions, please get in touch at [email address] and we'll do our best to help.
