Hailing from East Kilbride and based in Glasgow, Declan Welsh is a poet and songwriter known for blending sharp social commentary with anthemic indie rock. Alongside his band, The Decadent West, he has built a reputation for fierce live performances and a "no-holds-barred" approach to political lyricism. Their 2019 debut, Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold, was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award, featuring the fan-favourite track 'Absurd'. Since then, they have performed at major festivals including Glastonbury, TRNSMT, and Isle of Wight, as well as international stages in Palestine and Germany. Their third album, Explicit Agitation, was recorded at Castle of Doom Studios and explores themes of protest, industrial neglect, and personal introspection.
