Music is a powerful tool that can often kick-start the brain and unlock memories, and it’s increasingly becoming a key feature of dementia care. These free accessible performances, designed especially for audiences living with dementia, are open to all. Concerts are 1 hour and 30 minutes long, with a 20 minute interval after 35 minutes. FREE BUT TICKETED: Book in person at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Box Office, via the Glasgow Concert Halls website, or by phoning 0141 353 8000 Monday 17th August: Neil Sturgeon Neil Sturgeon is a songwriter with a wide spanning career which has seen him play many notable venues and events as well as performing extensively with his acoustic guitar in hundreds of health & care settings around Scotland. Thursday 3rd September: Dominic Blaikie - Singer and Guitarist Dominic is a singer-guitarist living in Edinburgh with a real love for song in all its forms. Dominic picked up the guitar as a teenager and never looked back, finding soul, jazz and americana along the way. Whether playing foot-stomping reels for cèilidh dancing or a singalong in a care home, Dominic’s keen ear and empathetic style is always well received. Wednesday 21st October: Jon Ritchie and That Swing Sensation – Big Band Classics Join Jon Ritchie and That Swing Sensation for an afternoon of big band classics. This fun reminiscence concert will transport you back to the golden age of swing with lots of unforgettable melodies and toe-tapping hits. Friday 20th November: Niamh Corkey - Traditional Folk Songs and Jazz Standards Niamh Corkey is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Kingdom of Fife, now based in Glasgow. Raised by a family of keen folk musicians, she has since woven her Scottish and Irish traditional roots with the passions for jazz, country and classical music that she has discovered along the way. Friday 11th December: Neil Sturgeon - 60s/70s Classics Neil Sturgeon is a songwriter with a wide spanning career which has seen him play many notable venues and events as well as performing extensively with his acoustic guitar in hundreds of health & care settings around Scotland. Tuesday 19th January: Isla Ratcliff & Evie Waddell – Scottish Traditional Music Isla Ratcliff and Evie Waddell perform unique arrangements of Scottish traditional music, combining Scots and Gaelic songs, fiddle, piano, stepdance and BSL. They have a striking blend of voices and a distinctive approach and attitude to traditional music. Tuesday 26th January: Grace Morton- Gaelic Traditional Music Grace grew up on the Northwest coast of Skye, where singing and playing instruments were as important as any other subject in school and at the heart of community life. She learnt guitar from her dad and followed in his footsteps as a songwriter. Since an early age Grace has honed this craft – drawn to writing songs with a focus on honesty, storytelling, place and emotional connection.
