We are delighted to welcome acclaimed whisky writer David Stirk, author of Pioneering Spirits: The Story of Scotland’s 21st Century Distilleries. David will share the fascinating stories behind the new generation of distilleries that have helped reshape Scotland’s spirits industry, introducing the people, ideas and entrepreneurial ambition driving the country’s modern distilling renaissance. David is also the author of Independent Scotch: The History of Independent Bottlers, which charts the decline of Scotland’s smaller blending and brokering firms from the 1940s to the 1980s, followed by the remarkable rise of the independent bottler from the late 1980s onwards. Founded by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery was created with a mission to bring single malt whisky distilling back to the city of Glasgow. The company takes its name from one of Scotland’s earliest licensed distilleries. The original Glasgow Distillery was founded in 1770 and produced unpeated, peated and triple-distilled single malt whisky before eventually closing in 1902. Today, that pioneering spirit has returned to the city. The Glasgow Distillery produces a distinctive collection of premium spirits, including its signature Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Makar Gin and Banditti Club Spiced Rum. Guests will enjoy a welcome cocktail and a guided tour of the distillery, offering a closer look at its story, production methods and award-winning spirits.
