We are delighted to invite you to Parent and Baby Sketch Club in Govanhill every Wednesday from 12:00 - 13:30. We will explore figure, portrait, and still life drawing in a relaxed, baby friendly environment. This is mostly aimed at parents of pre walkers, if you have an older child and a young baby and would like to come along with both we can make some exceptions, please do reach out if this applies! We want to keep it as calm and enjoyable as possible for the babies. Some of Glasgow’s best models (clothed) will be joining the sessions, however, if the class is quiet we will set up a still life instead to keep costs low. These sessions are unthemed and relaxed and will be accompanied by our playlist as usual. There is space for 15 attendees and their babies. Price includes one adult and their baby, if an additional adult wants to attend and draw, then please buy an extra ticket. If an additional adult wants to attend as a pair of helping hands for the baby, please email us before and let us know; we may be able to squeeze them in for a small admin fee. WHAT WE PROVIDE/WHAT TO BRING: For the drawing: • We will provide A3 drawing boards. • We have materials to borrow: we will prioritise baby safe materials such as baby friendly crayons, we will also have pencils to borrow but we will not provide erasers/charcoal • You can bring sketchbooks and any of your preferred dry or water-soluble materials. • You can either sit on a chair or use a mat, or stand! For babies: We will provide mats for babies to lie/crawl on but you are welcome to bring extra blankets so it is extra cosy and toys to help entertain them PRICING INFO: The sessions will be priced at £12 or £8 for concessions However, should you wish to tip the model, you can do so at the event. Each ticket will cover a £2 deposit, which is non-refundable and acts as a tip for the model should you not be able to attend. For a refund - the deposit/reallocation of your ticket, please contact us as soon as possible, our usual policy is before 24 hours but this will be done on a case by case basis for this group as we understand things don’t always go to plan with young babies. You can also pay in cash on the day but this will be subject to space. Please bring exact change as we do not have a kitty. If price is a barrier, please reach out to us and we will work something out. TIPS FOR DRAWING WITH BABIES If you use one, having your baby in a carrier or sling can be a great strategy for being able to draw. You can stand and draw which allows you to keep swaying and rocking if you need. Depending on your baby’s age you might like to pop them into a back carry so they can look over your shoulder at your drawing/the model/still life. Additionally, letting go of an expectation to ‘create’ a finished piece. There are many aspects to drawing, including looking, thinking, feeling, and mark making. Try to enjoy the bits you can do with a babe in arms or climbing up your legs!
