The Remembrance Sunday service will take place on 8 November 2026 at George Square in Glasgow, marking a return to the square after a temporary relocation. The public service will feature a Guard of Honour from the Scots Guards and music from various bands. The event will include readings and a moment of silence to honour those who have served.
This year's commemorations will see Glasgow's main Remembrance Sunday service return to George Square, following last year's temporary move to Glasgow Cathedral while the square and Cenotaph were affected by redevelopment works. The public service will begin at 10.45am and is expected to conclude around 11.45am, on Sunday 8 November. A Guard of Honour will be provided by Scots Guards, with music from The Combined Lowland and Highland Bands of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Police Scotland and Federation Pipe Band. The Lord Provost, in her role as Lord-Lieutenant of Glasgow, will be joined by representatives of the Armed Forces and reserve services, veterans' organisations, emergency services, civic representatives, faith leaders and other charitable organisations from across the city. Shortly before 11am, Binyon's Lines will be read before the Last Post is sounded and the Flowers of the Forest is played. At 11am, George Square will fall silent for two minutes as Glasgow remembers those who have lost their lives in conflict and pays tribute to all those who have served. The silence will be followed by wreath laying at the Cenotaph, including a wreath laid by the Lord-Lieutenant on behalf of the citizens of Glasgow. Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren, said: "Remembrance Sunday is one of the most important and poignant occasions in Glasgow's civic calendar. It is a time for our city to stand together and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as generations of men and women who have served our country and those who continue to do so. "It will be particularly significant this year to be able to gather once again at the Cenotaph in George Square, in the heart of our city, to pay our respects together." Last week Glasgow's Garden of Remembrance was opened outside Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery that also saw the start of PoppyScotland's 2026 appeal. The Garden provides a dedicated place for people to pause, reflect and remember during the Remembrance period.
