About This Event

Ocean rower Miriam Payne will deliver an Inspiring People Talk about crossing the Atlantic and rowing the Pacific at The Glasgow Academy Kelvinbridge on 14 October 2026. Further pricing information can be found on the website.

Miriam is an ocean rower who has crossed the Atlantic solo and most recently was part of the first women’s team (Seas the Day) to row the Pacific non-stop and unsupported. Miriam, alongside teammate Jess spent five and a half months at sea on a 10-metre boat, rowing 8,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Australia. Her talk explores the realities of life on the ocean - from dealing with cramped living conditions, equipment failures and long stretches of isolation, balanced by moments that make it worthwhile - close encounters with wildlife, vast night skies and sunrises in the middle of nowhere.
