About This Event
Scottish Opera is delighted to bring Handel's enchanting opera, Alcina, to the Theatre Royal Glasgow. Performances commence on Saturday 6 February at precisely 7:15 PM, promising an evening of Baroque brilliance. The captivating narrative centres on the powerful sorceress Alcina, who wields her magic to ensnare unsuspecting men. Her carefully constructed world of illusion is challenged by the arrival of Ruggiero, one of her lovers, whose own fiancée, Bradamante, infiltrates her enchanted island disguised as a young warrior. This masterful production delves into profound themes of love's transformative power, the seductive nature of illusion, and the complexities of identity. Audiences are invited to experience this spellbinding tale of enchantment and deception. Tickets for this unmissable production start from a very accessible £22, offering a wonderful opportunity to witness a Handel masterpiece brought to life.
The production is set in Club Amnesia, where the performance artist Alcina uses her power to control the men around her and bend reality to her will. The plot follows the arrival of Ruggiero's fiancée, who disguises herself as a man to rescue him, leading to a conflict that threatens Alcina's world of hedonism and fantasy.
The performance is by Scottish Opera.
