About This Event

Sitting with the Stars will take place on 3 September 2026 at Edward House in Glasgow. The event explores the city's history as a major film-going destination where viewing movies was once a way of life for residents.

Once the city with more screens per head than any other city in the world, going to the pictures was a way of life for Glaswegians. Focusing on the cinemas of Sauchiehall Street the exhibition will cover the ephemera that made up everyday cinema going – from box office to projection booth. With extensive research and materials from local cinema historian, Bren MacNeil, and mechanical equipment from Projected Picture Trust (Scotland) the exhibition will feature newspaper listings, tickets, film stock, posters, projection equipment, pictures and more.
