We have entered a new period of war and crisis—from the horrors inflicted on Gaza to the million casualties in Ukraine, war has come to define the landscape of last three years. And with growing economic tensions with China, an increasingly militarised Europe, and Trump presiding over the biggest geo-political shakeup in decades, we can be certain that global instability is set to become the new norm.

And whilst our leaders seek to hike military budgets to stoke the flames of warfare abroad, at the same time, our government is cracking down on civil liberties at home. The shocking mass arrests of Palestine solidarity activists in London last month marked a new and dangerous escalation in the assault on the right to protest. Now, more than ever, we must fight to defend our movements and push back against the war machine.

Since our last AGM, we have helped build the movement for welfare not warfare, increased the voice of Stop The War in Scotland, and taken part in the interational anti-war conference.

Over the past couple of years, we have also hosted mass demonstrations, bringing together trade unions, peace organisations, and faith groups in opposition to war and repression.

We are inviting all Stop the War members from across Scotland, as well as delegates of supporting and affiliated organisations, to join us at the Stop the War Scotland AGM 2026 to strengthen our movement and plan the next steps in resisting war and defending the right to protest. The event will open with a political discussion featuring key speakers on the urgent challenges we face. The AGM will also elect a new Steering Committee, formalise our structures, and set out our strategy for the year ahead.
