About This Event

Travesties is a theatre event scheduled for 2 September 2026 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The performance takes place within the context of Zürich, 1917. Tickets must be checked on the website.

Zürich, 1917. While poppies bloom across the fields of Europe, the artists, revolutionaries, and exiles of the world converge in pacific Switzerland to engage in conflict of a different kind. Here, three unlikely figures collide: an Irish poet, a Romanian absurdist, and the future leader of the Soviet Union. Henry Carr knew them all – or so he claims. Through the fractured memories of a minor British official, Tom Stoppard’s Travesties turns history into a dazzling parody of The Importance of Being Earnest. Hilarious, anarchic, and startlingly relevant, this modern classic asks what purpose art serves in a world at war. As urgent today as when it was written, Travesties is a riotous comedy of ideas for an age of uncertainty. Additional Dates: 04 September 2026, 05 September 2026
