About This Event

A tour of Radical east end Glasgow Join Carolyn Wilson of Rebel Glasgow for a walking tour which will explore the history of Glasgow’s east end and the rapid industrialisation it underwent in the 19th century. We’ll also be learning about some of the Radicals who lived in the area at the time, and the reasons why they might have taken part in tearing down Harvie’s Dyke in June 1823, an act of direct action against a greedy landowner’s attempts to block access to the riverside path. We’ll meet at 2pm at Bridgeton Cross, under the umbrella (directly across the road from the railway station) and walk at a leisurely pace. We’ll visit various places, including the site of Harvie’s Dyke, where we’ll take a break and you’ll have a chance to see and hear about the archaeological dig happening there this week. We’re aiming to finish by 4pm. We’ll be following a circular route, between 3-4 miles in length, with two options: ending at Dalmarnock station for those who prefer a shorter walk, or returning to Bridgeton. Please dress for the weather, and bring water/ snacks. If you have any concerns or questions about accessibility, please email rebelhistoryglasgow@gmail.com
