Dursley Figure of Eight Walk
Day: Saturday 10th October
Time: 09:00 – 18:00
Start Location: Market Place, Dursley, GL11 4BN
What3words: ///admire.fussy.rush
Distance: 17 miles (27 km)
Grade: Hard
Walk Leader: Tony Stokes, Dursley Rambling Club, DWW
Description:
The Figure of Eight Walk is our iconic walk highlighting the best of the local area. It is a long (17 mile / 27km) and hilly route, but is a fantastic way to see what makes this area so special – there are many fabulous views. It comprises a loop to the west of the town, followed by a further loop on the eastern side.
We start from the Dursley Market House and ascend steeply up to the golf course on Stinchcombe Hill. After a (steep!) descent we pass through the village of Stinchcombe and then several fields to reach Dursley’s close neighbour, Cam. We continue the walk in a clockwise direction through further fields until we pass through Dursley again.
The eastern section of the walk takes us around the Uley valley, initially along the south side where we rise back up the Cotswold escarpment and then down with a terrific view of Owlpen Manor nestled in the hillside.
Across some more fields, we reach Uley with its sculpture on the Green celebrating the Uley Gorilla, before we go up onto Uley Bury. After descending from the Bury we will walk through farmland to the edge of Cam Long Down and then over Cam Peak before returning to Dursley.
This walk is free, but the Festival relies on kind donations to ensure its future. You can make a donation, here
