A workshop on Repairing, Refurbishing, and Repurposing Old Buildings will occur at Our Big Picture in Grimsby. This event is part of the Heritage Toolbox series and aims to educate participants on historic building preservation. Attendance is free.
Join us this November for an extra Heritage Toolbox workshop focused on repairing, refurbishing, and repurposing historic buildings in NEL
Across Grimsby, Cleethorpes, and NE Lincolnshire, hundreds of historic and heritage buildings have untapped potential. Many could become new community spaces, arts venues, wellbeing hubs, or new homes for local organisations. This workshop brings together people who are already working on heritage buildings, exploring reuse options, or curious about how to start a building restoration or refurbishment project.
We’ll explore how to plan, fund, and deliver successful heritage regeneration projects — from early feasibility to capital delivery — using real examples at different scales and stages. This workshop is part of Heritage Toolbox North East Lincolnshire (https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/launching-heritage-toolbox/), a programme of support workshops delivered by the Heritage Network (https://www.heritagenetwork.org.uk/) and Heritage Lincolnshire (https://heritagelincolnshire.org/), with support from Create North East Lincolnshire (https://createnortheastlincolnshire.co.uk/) and the National Lottery Heritage Fund (https://www.heritagefund.org.uk/).
What this workshop will include:
· Local case studies from live capital projects in North East Lincolnshire, showcasing different approaches to heritage building repair, reuse, and restoration.
· A “Meet the Professionals” panel — hear directly from architects, surveyors, project managers, and other specialists involved in heritage and capital projects. Understand who to engage, when, and why.
· A “Meet the Funder” session — with the team from the Architectural Heritage Fund (https://ahfund.org.uk/), who are currently awarding up to £500,000 through the Heritage Revival Fund (https://ahfund.org.uk/what-we-do/inspire/news/heritage-revival-fund-relaunches) for heritage regeneration and building reuse in England.
· The capital project journey — a clear overview of feasibility, viability, project development, and capital delivery for historic building projects.
· Networking opportunities — connect with heritage, arts, community, and regeneration practitioners across the region.
· Best practice from across the UK — learn from speakers working on innovative heritage reuse and building restoration projects nationwide.
Who this workshop is for:
· Creative and community organisations considering taking on or refurbishing a historic or heritage building.
· Established organisations planning improvements to their existing building (such as accessibility upgrades or energy‑efficiency improvements).
· Community groups passionate about saving local heritage at risk or exploring building reuse opportunities.
· Anyone working in NE Lincolnshire who wants to understand the potential of heritage regeneration and adaptive reuse.
If you’re unsure whether this workshop is right for you, please get in touch and we can advise.
