Join Us for the GU1 4 Resilience Neighbourhood Engagement Event!

Hey there! We're hosting an in-person gathering focused on building resilience right here in the GU1 4 area. Extreme weather is becoming a bigger part of life in our area, and it raises the question of: how ready are we, as a community, to look out for each other when things go wrong?

Come meet your neighbours, learn more about risks and how together we can be better prepared. Come ready to learn and share ideas to help make our community stronger together.

It’s a relaxed chance to connect, learn, and inspire positive change locally.

Why now?

There is an initiative through Surrey County Council to support the development of local resilience plans like this one, and to fund initiatives that bring those plans to life (up to £15k). We're seeking views from residents and businesses in the area about how at-risk you feel, how prepared you feel for disruption, and whether you'd like to be involved in emergency or further resilience planning.

What is the GU1 4 Zone?

It is essentially all the postcodes that start with GU1 4.

The GU1 4 zone is framed by the railway line at Guildford Station to the west and extending toward London Road (Guildford) Station to the east. Its perimeter stretches past Markenfield Road and along Walnut Tree Close in the north, and incorporating major commercial corridors like North Street and Friary Street to the south.

Where can I find out more information about Surrey's adaptation and resilience strategy, and the funding?

You can find out more at https://togetherforsurrey.org/news/community-resilience-grant-2026/ and Surrey's approach to adaptation and resilience at: https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/community/climate-change/what-are-we-doing/adaptation-and-resilience/adaptation-strategy.

This project is being conducted by a group of local GU1 4 residents, led by Lisa Dittmar, supported by Zero Carbon Guildford (ZERO) (https://www.zerocarbonguildford.org/), a community charity based here in GU1 4, at Riverside Business Centre on Walnut Tree Close. From home energy advice and a community fridge to the Rosamund Community Garden and river water quality testing on the Wey and Tillingbourne, they support practical projects aimed at making our area healthier, greener, and more self-reliant.
