A site visit investigating the hidden cost of overprotection will take place on 12 November 2026 at UVEX SAFETY (UK) LTD in Guildford. Women in Health & Safety will discuss whether personal protective equipment creates barriers to safety.
Join Women in Health & Safety exploring a question which affects almost every workplace: can PPE create new barriers to safety?
Join Women in Health & Safety for a practical and interactive day exploring an important question: can PPE sometimes create barriers to safety rather than remove them?
For many women, PPE fit and design have long been recognised challenges. However, the issue extends far beyond gender. Poorly fitting, uncomfortable or overly protective equipment can affect communication, situational awareness, compliance and overall performance in the workplace. Regulators are also placing increasing emphasis on selecting the right level of protection, particularly in areas such as hearing conservation, rather than assuming that more protection is always better.
This event will bring together women working across Health & Safety to explore what effective PPE provision should look like for today's diverse workforce. Through expert insight, facilitated discussions and practical demonstrations, we'll examine PPE fit and inclusivity, wearer acceptance, comfort and compliance, overprotection, emerging technologies and the evolving role of PPE in workplace safety.
Attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges from their own workplaces and contribute ideas for building more effective PPE programmes.
In the afternoon, these discussions will be brought to life through demonstrations of the latest developments in hearing protection and fit testing, eyewear, personalisation, compatibility testing and custom PPE solutions.
We'll conclude by looking ahead and asking: what should PPE look like in 2030?
There will also be plenty of time over coffee and lunch to connect with other members of the Women in Health & Safety community.
